We would like to invite you to participate in the upcoming meeting, organized by WG3 (Environmental and Socio-Economic impacts of Mediterranean cyclones) through the online event which will take place on 10 March 2022, 09:30-12:00 CET. Please save the date!
We have several exciting research directions in this field and so we would like to inform you on the progress and future steps. The main purpose of the meeting is to hear about the latest work in the field by our expert community members and establish new links and initiatives in these research directions.

MEDcyclones has been endorsed by WWRP in early 2021, aiming to connect our research with the Tropical Meteorology Research Working Group and the High-Impact Weather Project.
MEDcyclones addresses several WWRP Action Areas through predictability and physical processes related to cyclones in the Mediterranean Sea as well as impacts of these events.
The Review Paper on Mediterranean cyclones has been published on Weather and Climate Dynamics. It provides an overview of the state of the art in the field and
highlights the research priorities for future studies. It is an open
access paper and you may find it here.
Please, feel free of sharing it with collegues!
The meeting on “Mediterranean Cyclones: Dynamics, Impact and Prediction at Weather and Climate Scales” held online on 3 January 2022 at the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Weizmann Institute of Science.
Full-day online program with oral talks and time for discussion.
The organizing team – Shira Raveh-Rubin, Dorita Rostkier-Edelstein, Pavel Khain

The MedCyclones COST action was presented at the CORDEX-FPS Convection annual meeting, and more specifically the MedCPM initiative, which aims at doing a climatological analysis of Mediterranean cyclones with high-resolution climate models, which can better represent convective rainfall.
Medicane, October 2021
An intense Mediterranean cyclone (a Medicane) has been affecting Sicily, Italy, and having attention in the Italian media.
Mario Miglietta and Silvio Davolio explained the event in several interviews for the main national nowcasts in Italy (in Italian).
Videos available on the left.
We invite you to participate in the upcoming meeting, organized by WG2 (understanding Mediterranean cyclones processes on climate scales). New exciting research directions emerge in this field and so this meeting is dedicated to cyclones and climate modeling.
The purpose of the meeting is to hear about the latest work in the field by our expert community members and establish new links and initiatives in this research direction.
You are warmly invited to the online event which will take place on 25 October, 10-12:30 CET.

The 1st Meeting on Mediterranean Cyclones and Aerosol is jointly organized by the COST Actions CA19109 – MedCyclones “European network for Mediterranean cyclones in weather and climate” and CA16202 – inDust “International Network to Encourage the Use of Monitoring and Forecasting Dust Products”. The meeting will be held in Castro Marina, close to Lecce, in south-eastern Italy, from 20 to 22 September, 2021.
Participation will be limited to 20 persons at most, due to safety reasons and venue capacity. However, online participation is possible using GoToMeeting at this link.
