Model Intercomparison Initiative

The aim of this initiative is to perform a model intercomparison for case studies of Mediterranean cyclones, in order to better understand their dynamics and predictability, which are often linked. This initiative will exploit results from “DynForMed” and “3T” initiatives and it is open to all modelling systems, whether operational or not, including high resolution and coupled (atmosphere-ocean) systems.

Whoever is interested, may provide model output, following the simulation protocol that was agreed in the first phase. A few interesting cases have already been identified, and we are now focussing on the recent tropical-like cyclone Ianos occurred around mid-September 2020. Then, we will proceed with other case studies.
